One of the most high-impact projects you can take on is electrifying your home heating by installing a heat pump. Heat pumps work just like air conditioners, but in two directions: they run on electricity and move heat from outside into your home (when it’s cold out) and from inside your home to outside (when it’s hot out). They’re extremely efficient alternatives to boilers or furnaces, and you won’t need separate A/C units to keep you cool in summer.
Did you know…?
Saving money with a heat pump
Because heat pumps operate more efficiently than fossil fuel systems, you have an opportunity for immediate savings on your energy bills. Beyond that, you can earn thousands of dollars from federal, state, and utility incentives when you install a heat pump.
New federal incentives from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) are now available as tax credits and add to existing New York State incentives. NYSERDA has published a detailed list of those incentives for heat pumps and other home energy improvements. Find out more from NYS Clean Heat about rebates available to you.
More funding will become available in 2023-2024 as rebates from the IRA. Those rebates could add up to $14,000 for your household, and will be based on your household’s income relative to Red Hook’s median income. Use this simple calculator from Rewiring America to learn how much money you might be able to get from the IRA: https://www.rewiringamerica.org/app/ira-calculator.
